Patrick is beginning his 42nd year with the credit union movement and has worked for St. Louis Community Credit Union for the past 31 years. Patrick was appointed CEO/President of St. Louis Community Credit Union in January 2008. The credit union has witnessed substantial growth while maintaining high levels of financial strength. Currently, SLCCU enjoys being the 8th largest credit union in the metropolitan St. Louis area (including Southern Illinois) and stands at the highest level of name recognition/brand awareness among St. Louis city residents.
St. Louis Community Credit Union is the 6th largest in member count serving 58,000 plus members. The credit union is a Community Development Financial Institution focusing on serving the stressed and distressed communities of St. Louis City and near County. The credit union employs 185 people, 90% of which reside in those same stressed and distressed communities. With the credit union’s 17th branch, SLCCU has an office within two miles of 98% of the St. Louis City population.

Guest Speaker: Tracy Ashfield
Tracy Ashfield is President of Ashfield & Associates, a consulting and training firm that assists credit unions with mortgage lending strategy, development, policies, product design, training and strategic planning. Tracy also works with the NCUA and NASCUS to provide training and education on residential mortgage lending for examiners and regulators.
Since 2001, Tracy’s consulting work has benefited credit unions and their members. She has worked with the largest mortgage-granting credit unions to enhance their programs, and she has helped credit unions new to mortgage lending establish programs. Her recommendations have propelled her clients to become efficient, profitable real estate lenders.
Through customized training programs, Tracy also delivers hands-on, results-driven curriculums to help credit unions find lending opportunities, manage their operations and develop strategies to become their members’ trusted advisor for real estate lending products and services.
Tracy has more than 25 years of experience in Mortgage Banking management. Before forming Ashfield & Associates she held a variety of management positions in the credit union industry. She was the Senior Executive, Mortgage Development at CUNA Mutual; the Senior Vice President of Operations of CUNA Mortgage Corporation, and she also worked with CMG Mortgage Insurance Company.
Guest Speaker: Karla Thompson
Karla is a Single Family Affordable Lending Manger who focuses on Rural Housing initiatives, including in the Colonias, Indian Country, Middle Appalachia, and the Lower Mississippi Delta under Freddie Mac’s Duty to Serve initiative.
Karla has 35 years of mortgage industry experience and has been with Freddie Mac for 24 years. She previously managed the loss mitigation settlement team and the loss mitigation production team. Karla was instrumental in servicing’s implementation of the Neighborhood Stabilization initiative and execution of servicing requirements under the Servicing Alignment initiative with the Federal Housing Finance Agency as well as other Freddie Mac programs.

Steve Hewins is Senior Vice President, CU Members Mortgage. With more than 25 years in banking and mortgage finance, Steve oversees institutional sales, member sales, and loan production. He joined the company in 2018 with deep experience in sales, operations, client engagement, process improvement, product development, technology, project management, and strategic planning. Steve has a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

David Motley, is President of Colonial Savings, F.A. and its divisions — Colonial National Mortgage and CU Members Mortgage.

Dedicated to grassroots advocacy, David has been an active member of the Texas MBA (TMBA) since 1995, serving in several capacities as Secretary –Treasurer for the Board of Directors, Convention Chairman, and Board member from 1999 to 2005. In 2015 and 2016, David served as a member of the Community Bank Advisory Counsel for the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau.

Scott Sherwin began his career as a sales professional in 1984. Bryson Hammond is Roostify’s Senior Director of Strategy with more than 20 years in operations, originations and credit policy for retail, direct, and wholesale lending channels. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the University of Colorado and a MBA from Texas Christian University.
Dr. Gaines focuses on housing and land development issues. He has more than 35 years experience in a broad array of professional real estate activities and has provided consulting services to numerous businesses, institutions, developers, and all levels of government organizations. He served as President of Rice Center, an urban research center affiliated with Rice University and was an associate professor of real estate and finance at the University of South Carolina.
